Libraries and local residents share in the Warmth of the Season with three Holiday Fund Drives

Donations of gifts, food and pet supplies were collected at the Bridgewater Library on December 16, 2011 from staff members of Bridgewater, Peapack & Gladstone, Bound Brook, Mary Jacobs, North Plainfield, Hillsborough and Watchung Libraries.

Participants selected names of clients from Alternatives, Inc. for the Franklin House and Parenting Program Wish List.  Alternatives, Inc. is non-profit organization dedicated to assisting individuals with special needs to enable them to reach their highest level of independence and integration into the community.  This is the library’s 13th year with this program.

Library staff throughout the system and local residents donated generous amounts of food and supplies for the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter located at 100 Commons Way in Bridgewater.

The BOBO “Buy One, Bring One” bins at the Bridgewater Library overflowed with donations of food and personal care items from local residents and staff.   “Donations of canned and boxed food items can help put together a holiday meal,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Patricia Walsh, who created the program last year.  Items will be donated to the Somerset County Food Banks.

Patrons with further questions can call SCLS at (908)526-4016 or enter the website at http://www.sclsnj.org.  The Somerset County Library System has branches in Bridgewater, Bound Brook, Hillsborough, at the Mary Jacobs Library in Rocky Hill, North Plainfield, Peapack & Gladstone, Somerville, Warren Township and Watchung.
