DWI Crackdown Nets 12 Arrests, Police Say
This was part of the annual year-end crackdown program.
Bridgewater Township Police reported making 12 arrests for drunk driving during its annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Year-End Statewide Crackdown.
The program ran from Dec. 7 through Jan. 2.
According to Bridgewater Township Sgt. Gregory Duane, there were no specific checkpoints held during the program, and all enforcement occurred through direct patrols conducted by officers.
The campaign is a national effort to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving with the use of high-visibility enforcement and public education, including posters, banners and video display signs.
The program was initially launched in 1999.
In addition to the drunk driving arrests, Duane said the department made seven drug arrests and 14 arrests for other various charges.
And these 2012 numbers, Duane said, were not abnormal.
“The numbers are almost the same as last year,” he said.
