9/11 Ceremonies to Commemorate the Anniversary

It's a weekend of fun, but also of remembrance when the townships honor the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, while also celebrating today with health and games.

But there's lots more going on, and below is the combination of our weekly pick of weekend activities and our Grab & Go Kids Planner, offering both fun weekend activities and great family-friendly fun at the same time.

Here are this week's picks:

Somerset Hills Kennel Club's Championship Dog Show
When/Where: 
From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. Check event status in case of rain.
Why Go: 
Come see the country's top show dogs compete for the coveted title of Best In Show. A variety of vendors and the opportunity to see different breeds up close and speak with knowledgeable owners and breeders make this event perfect for "man's best friend" and owners.
Pricing: 
Free admission.  

Live Healthy, Live United Fair
When/Where:
 From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Adult Day Center in Bridgewater.
Why Go: 
Because local residents are invited to bring their whole families to enjoy fun activities, massages and fitness demonstrations while learning options of how to live a healthy life. Somerset Patriots mascot, Sparkee, will be on hand to join in the fun of contests and prizes. 
Pricing: 
Free admission. 

Back-To-School Jamboree
When/Where:
 At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at The Bridgewater Township Library in Bridgewater.
Why Go: 
For children ages 3 and older to kick off the school year with a celebration of silly songs. 
Pricing: 
Free. Registration is not required. 

Sports Memorabilia Auction
When/Where: 
Events begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue throughout the doubleheader on Sunday at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater.
Why Go: 
To bid on high quality sports memorabilia and participate in a tribute to those who perished in 9/11. All monies raised from the auction will be donated to Operation Shoebox New Jersey. 
Pricing: 
$10 for special reserved seating. 

Bridgewater Township September 11 Ceremony
When/Where: 
At 12:45 p.m. on Sunday at Bridgewater Township Municipal Building in Bridgewater.
Why Go: 
To honor the 10th anniversary of 9/11. In addition to the traditional program, there will be a Moment of RemembranceCome unite with neighbors and a nation.
Pricing: 
Free. 

Go Wild at Great Swamp! Annual Fall Festival
When/Where: 
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: 
To welcome the fall season with a festival of exhibits, guided nature walks, crafts and wildlife. Kids will enjoy exploring the grand opening of the new Nature Detective Trail while adults can rummage through used books and a wide variety of nature-themed items for sale. 
Pricing: 
Free admission.

Family Fun Day
When/Where: 
From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: 
Celebrate family ties and fun. Amusements and activities for all ages. Pony and train rides, crafts and music, all help to create family memories.
Pricing: 
Free admission.

Seventh-Annual Century for the Cure Bike Ride
When/Where:
 From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Camp Riverbend in Warren Township.
Why Go: 
To cycle for proceeds to benefit cutting-edge research and programs at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Be a "Virtual Rider" and help raise funds without participating in the picturesque 40- or 80-mile route. Either way, you help pedal toward a cure.
Pricing: 
Donations gratefully accepted. Registration required.

Rain Gardens and Rain Collection Program
When/Where:
 From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Duke Farms in Hillsborough.
Why Go: 
To learn how to build your own rain garden to help soak up rainwater. Hey, Irene ... How does your garden grow?
Pricing: 
$20. Registration required. 

"E-Mail 9/12" A Staged Reading Honoring 9/11
When/Where: 
At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Somerset Valley Theatre in Hillsborough.
Why Go: 
To hear this emotional, original staged reading by Hillsborough resident Midge Guerrera, honoring 9/11 victims and their families on this 10th anniversary of the terror attack.
Pricing: 
Free admission. Reservations not required.

Build Your Own Flashing Police Car
When/Where:
 At 10 a.m. on Saturday at Lowes in Hillsborough.
Why Go: 
The Build and Grow clinic continues with building a cool police car with stickers and a flashing light.
Pricing: 
Free. Registration required.

Sixth Annual Warren Township Classic Car Show
When/Where: 
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday at Municipal Grounds Park in Warren Township.
Why Go: 
To check out a wide variety of antique, classic, race cars, and motorcycles. Don't miss the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby
Pricing: 
Free admission.

Freedom Maze and Memorial 
When/Where: 
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Norz Hill Farm & Market in Hillsborough.
Why Go: 
To come out to the farm for a day of fun while honoring our nation's bravest heroes. Try your luck at navigating the Freedom MazeAll proceeds from the maze and farm tours will go directly to the EMS's of Hillsborough.
Pricing: 
Activities vary.

Somerville 9/11 Ceremony and Tree Planting
When/Where: 
At 8:45 a.m. on Sunday at the 9/11 Memorial Clock Tower in Somerville.
Why Go: 
To witness and honor the planting of a memorial tree and the reading of the names of the 39 Somerset County residents killed at the World Trade Center. 
Pricing: 
Free.

Somerville Jazz Festival
When/Where: 
From 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Somerset County Court House Green.
Why Go: 
Because more than 30 artists will entertain you with the smooth sounds of jazz. An array of affordable artwork and crafts as well as delicious food and beverages will be available. Help support our troops by donating personal care items for Operation Shoebox being collected at the JazzFest.
Pricing: 
Free admission.
