Bobby Esposito makes a save against Brick

After winning the Skylands Cup on Feb. 23, the Bridgewater-Raritan High School ice hockey team defeated Toms River East Feb. 25 at the Bridgewater Sports Arena, 6-0 in the opening round of the New Jersey Interscholastic Youth League (states tournament) to win round one.

On Feb. 27, Bridgewater overtook Brick Memorial, 5-1, to take the second round.

Then, in an overtime thriller, Bridgewater defeated Westfield, 3-2, Saturday at the Bridgewater Sports Arena.

Bridgewater was up 2-1, when Westfield tied the game with 36 seconds left in the game. A 15-minute sudden death overtime period was played with neither team scoring.

In a shootout, Tyler Darby, Alec Caseiro and Will Dimock scored for Bridgewater. Goalie Bobby Esposito then stopped three out of five shots to give Bridgewater the win.

The team heads to Codey Arena Tuesday at 6 p.m. to play Livingston in the semi-finals.
