A Bridgewater man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in August to possessing child pornography on a laptop computer and DVDs in his home, according to United States District Attorney Paul Fishman.

David Tuytjens, 57, had previously pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of child pornography, and he was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp in Trenton federal court.

In addition to the 120 months in prison, Tuytjens was sentenced to five years of supervised release, restricted contact with minors and monitoring of his use of the computer.

Tuytjens will also be required to register as a sex offender.

According to documents filed with the court, Tuytjens was subject to community supervision for life because of prior convictions for sexual assault. Officers from the New Jersey State Parole Board were examining his laptop in April 2011 on a visit to his residence, when they found multiple images of child pornography, possibly downloaded from the Internet, court documents said.

At the time, the documents said, Tuytjens admitted that he stored pictures and videos of child pornography on his laptop computer and DVDs in his home.

The FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael Ward in Newark, was credited by Fishman with leading the investigation that led to the sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John E. Clabby, of the U.S. Attorney's Office Criminal Division in Trenton, represented the government in the case.
