With the board of education elections coming on Nov. 6, we thought it would be a good time to hear directly from the candidates themselves about the issues that matter to residents.

On six different days this week, we will feature video responses from seven candidates on questions concerning the budget, curriculum and communication.

The candidates are incumbents Patrick Breslin, Cindy Cullen and Daniel Petrozelli, and Jacqueline Barlow, Aaron Kurdyla, Taha Marhaba and Hany Mostafa.

For this first question, we asked the candidates to talk about how they will continue to improve the curriculum in the district.

Responses all seem like platitudes. a bit Scary. Were these board members given time to THINK??
If the question was 'how to improve curriculum' , then the way you do that is hire curriculum improvement people, hold them accountable, review improvements with the Superintendent and maybe the board, and be sure they use benchmarks against 'best in class', that is world class standards. Education has been developed here for 250 years; it's hard work, not new rocket science research.

Curriculum is a small part of the puzzle. The biggest parts can't be touched by the BoE, legislation, etc. And be careful about wanting breadth over depth.
