Ever Tried Yoga 'In the Swamp'?
Learn beginning yoga and maybe be inspired by the creatures who live in the Great Swamp.
Sometimes there's just not enough days in the week, but every Wednesday we'll give you an idea of something to do to relax, spend time with family and just take some time for yourself.
This week, you can sign up to escape to some prime New Jersey swampland to derive inspiration from the serenity of nature—and maybe the agility of some of the creatures within.
The Somerset County Park Commission has announced dates for the autumn session of Beginners Classic Hatha Yoga “In the Swamp” at the Lord Stirling Environmental Education Center, at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge.
This low-impact program will introduce adults to the healthful benefits of yoga in a 10-week program offered twice every Thursday beginning Sept. 13. Sessions will run from 1 to 2 p.m. and from 6 to 7 p.m.
The fee for each session is $80.
Preregistration is required, and forms and information may be obtained by calling 908-766-2489. Registration began Sept. 6.
Hatha Yoga is a slow-paced stretching exercise combined with simple breathing exercises and seated meditation. It is a good opportunity to learn basic poses, relaxation techniques and become comfortable with yoga.
Participants are requested to wear comfortable clothing and bring a Yoga mat. Mats will be available for purchase at the first session for a fee of $25.
The public is also invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks at the Environmental Education Center and other county parks facilities and centers.
Information on this event and other Somerset County Park Commission activities may be found online.
