Inactive Rocket-Propelled Grenade Found in Home
Country Club Road residents evacuated Friday afternoon after device found in basement.
A rocket-propelled grenade found in the basement of a house on Country Club Road Friday was found to be inactive, according to Bridgewater Township Police.
According to a release from the police department, officers responded to a call on the 400 block of Country Club Road at about 4:40 p.m. Friday, with the information that a resident had found an unexploded device.
The item, a rocket-propelled grenade, was found in the basement, and the resident brought it up to the kitchen, police said.
Once police determined that the grenade posed a hazard, they evacuated the residence and surrounding homes, while also closing down that section of Country Club Road, the release said.
Police said the New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit responded to the scene and conducted an investigation of the grenade.
The grenade, which was found to be inert, was originally from the World War II era, police said.
The area was cleared around 6:45 p.m., police said, and the road reopened and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
