300-Pound Sewer Grates Stolen in Bridgewater
Police believe the grates are being sold as scrap metal.
Bridgewater Township Police are reporting a theft of a total of four sewer grates in Bridgewater over the weekend.
According to Bridgewater Township Police Lt. Al Nicaretta, between Friday night and Monday morning, two sewer grates were stolen from Meadow Road and two were stolen from Thru Way Drive.
"The grates are the full size grates weighing about 300 pounds each," he said.
Nicaretta said that police believe the grates are being sold as scrap metal for about 10 cents a pound at local recycling centers.
"Last year, about 12 were stolen throughout the year," he said.
