This road resurfacing was tired in the hilly Sunset Lake area several years ago and school buses tore up the surface within 2 years.

All the disturbed asphalt materials ran downhill into the Chamers Brook.

If this process actually extended the life of the road 10yrs it wouldn't be so uncommon!

They did it on my street a few years ago. What a mess they made. Small rocks flying around for weeks everytime a car went doen the street. It's a legitimate techniques for extending road life, but if they get a guy who doesn't know what he's doing, its a disaster.

Any environmental engineer will tell you what you have; a material laced with poly aromatic hydrocarbons defined by the NJ DEP as hazardous waste with the only disposal venue is a regulated landfill. I doubt the town has factored in the cost of weekly street sweeping and cost to truck the waste into a landfill.

I made a turn on a Bridgewater road that had this done and wiped out on my motorcycle. Penny wise, pound foolish. Not sure where my $10k annual taxes are going.

I'm on Ten Eyck Road and they did this technique (if you can call it that) a few years ago. I fought it then, and will fight it again. My lawn was full of little rocks as the person above stated and my street was left with these nasty grooves, and today the road is full of cracks. They even covered over the manhole covers with this stuff and now the pavement is crumbling away around them. So they say it extends the life another ten years...all they are really doing is putting patch on patch on patch. A friend of mine is the lead engineer in one of the largest paving companies in NJ and he told me years ago this is not a good alternative. If your road is slated for this....fight it.

Van Holten Road is in desperate need of help. It has become so bad that most of us on Meadow Road take Rolling Knolls to Mahnken Drive to Garretson as a bypass!

We are paying township workers to much for the jobs they do from the top down time
to cut all and we will have money to pave the roads in gold.

To much waste in Bw Township look at public records for pay roll for police and admin in town ship over paid for local town jobs.

I have a question on the 3% tax raise -- I thought the Gov. put a limit on the raising of taxes at 2%!

I am so glad this article was placed on Patch! Our neighborhood is one of the streets mentioned in the article. What a waste of time, money and future money for all the damage it has already caused and will cause in the future. Several months ago while it was still cold the tar truck came down our street spraying strips of tar all over the street leaving hideously large globs, chunks and mounds all over. Driving, walking our dogs and riding bikes became such a pleasure afterward. Then, the Township Public Works so intelligently planned to have the street cleaner come down the street. Yes, you can guess what that did to the street. Really, Bridgewater, do we have to tell you what a terrible plan that was? So to wind this up, some of our neighbors have been calling the DPW and the Engineering Dept to get answers about what they will be doing to correct this botched up job and when they will be doing it. The answer was that they should have placed the tar and then a layer of stone should have been placed over it immediately. Well that never happened so it is now scheduled to happen in July. JULY! When it is all nice and gooey again and then we will have all that nice gooey tar AND some nice rocks flying all over getting on our shoes, bikes, dogs, cars and motorcycles. Who in the Township has planned for all the Claims that will be filed for all the damage this poorly planned project will cause.

Please, we all need to stop this mess before it happens.

So this is where $10,000 a year in taxes goes? A cheap fix to a major problem? Nice way to treat the residents of your town. Their are a lot of dogs on our street and this is an unacceptable half-assed approach to solving a problem. How do you expect us to walk our dogs with little pieces of rock all over the road and grass? I'm sure this is great for our cars as well. This is absolutely absurd and Bridgewater township needs to come up with a better solution to this issue. $75,000 is less than our street pays in taxes a year!! Combined with everyone elses' streets!? Where is our money going to!? Sure didn't go to putting street lights in on our street either that is for sure.

There is so much more to this story! For the past two months a number of Van Nest Dr. residents have been calling the Engineering & Public Works Depts to get answers on why our street was dumped with tar back in March which has been causing major problems and safety concerns since. We were told by one of the workers that "our street was a rush job and a private paving company would be coming in soon." Three months later the job has not been completed, and in the interum, our cars have been skidding on melted tar, moms have been peeling tar off their children's feet, neighbors have been tripping on the street while trying to walk their dogs, (whose paws have also been tarred). These safety concerns were expressed during calls to the township and they were all ignored with no return phone calls...no one given a straight answer about who is responsible for the abandoned job on Van Nest. In mid-May a resident received a return phone call from the Head of Engineering indicating the road completion/paving would be done this summer, and that the township was still waiting for bids on the job. Now through the Bridgewater PATCH we get answers to our months of inquiries and learn that the township council on 6/7 voted on a 'Cheap Alternative To Fix Our Township Roads.' We would have appreciated being made aware of the scheduled meeting and the opportunty to voice our concerns. We are not happy about the handling of this job from start to finish. We want a better solution.

I have lived on Van Nest Drive for 25 years. My neighbors and I have always taken much pride, and spent our hard earned money and time maintaining our homes and properties. And now our township has decided to do a cheap fix on our street?! My daughter recently returned from college, and as she turned onto Van Nest she was shocked on how "ugly" our street looked. Why did we bother working so hard on our home and properties for so many years?

Here it is and funny thing is they think they can do what ever they want and there is nothing they think they cant do with everyones lives not matter what. funny thing is that the people that are doing it are the people that have ghost's in the closet that need to be heard..........
