Prosecutor: Couple Found With 120 Packets of Heroin

Detectives conduct drug bust at Bridgewater mall.

Two Piscataway residents were arrested Thursday outside the Bridgewater Commons Mall allegedly in possession of 120 packets of heroin with a street value of $1,800, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said.

Randy Zuchniewicz, 40, and Christine Makarewicz, 34, who lived at the same Piscataway address, were each charged with third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.

According to a statement released by Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, the Narcotics Task Force detectives received information on Thursday that Zuchniewicz would be operating a silver Dodge Stratus with an unknown female passenger, who was later identified as Makarewicz, and they would allegedly be in possession of a heroin.

Task Force detectives observed Zuchniewicz driving a silver Dodge Stratus in the Bridgewater Commons Mall parking lot with Makarewicz as the front-seat passenger Thursday night at about 7 p.m., Soriano said.

Once Zuchniewicz parked, detectives removed the two occupants from the vehicle, Soriano said. As Makarewicz got out of the vehicle, a cigarette box fell to the ground that she then attempted to kick away, Soriano said.

The box contained 120 wax folds of heroin marked “warning," Soriano said. There was no other narcotics found inside the vehicle, Soriano said.

Zuchniewicz and Makarewicz were lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail set at $15,000 each with a 10 percent provision.
