Poll: What Roads Are Too Dangerous For Walkers?
Let us know what roads you would never cross on foot.
The Tri-State Transportation Campaign (TSTC) recenty determined that Route 22 is the most dangerous road in Somerset County for pedestrians based on the number of deaths over a three-year span—but that's not the only place to watch out.
A total of four pedestrian deaths were reported on Route 22 between 2009 and 2011, in addition to others on Weston Canal Road and Route 619.
And these figures, of course, don't include motor vehicle fatalities—that have nothing to do with pedestrians—including the death of a Bound Brook resident on Route 22 in Bridgewater Thursday.
But there are other roads throughout Somerset County while, not as dangerous, still pose some kind of threat when trying to cross.
So we want to know what roads you consider too dangerous to cross on foot.
Take our poll and let us know what you think of some of our choices, then tell us in the comments what roads you feel are particularly dangerous for pedestrians.

Many intersections, especially Raider Boulevard and Route 206 in Hillsborough give a false sense of safety for the students at the High School who may be walking to cross 206 to access a safe walking route for work or to get home. There needs to be better crosswalks for kids in place if there truly is a drive for a town center, especially in the one mile radius of our High School.

Newmans Lane & Steele Gap, too many people walking and biking on narrow road without shoulders.

Any road in Basking Ridge. I walk my baby and two dogs with my neighbor and her baby, and people drive much too close to us as we walk in the street. Cars need to be more aware that there are families walking in the street and that pedestrians always have the right of way. Possibly we can close off several roads in Basking Ridge to motor traffic to make it safer for the walkers and families in the street.

You should only be walking in the street if there is no sidewalk and you should probably curtail your walks when rush hour is not happening.

The D&R Canal trail crossing at Weston Canal Road near Manville seems to be very dangerous. It's not even properly marked as a crosswalk, and it's just around a curve with poor visibility. I complained to the State Parks commission, and they said they have no jurisdiction over the road crossings on that trail. They need a button that would active warning lights as they have at other crossings near Princeton.

Route 202 (Mine Brook Road) in Bernardsville, especially during rush hour, is congested and dangerous, particularly in the area near the Bernardsville King's shopping center. It is dangerous for drivers, pedestrians who may be crossing between the shopping centers, and Bernards HS students. It would be great if they could get a traffic cop there during peak hours.

Peachtree and Woodstone Rds in Homestead Village, Basking Ridge, during school drop off and pick up hours - school buses fly along the roads ever since they were rerouted through the once quiet backwater neighborhood that predominanty has no sidewalks. A bus came past my daughter last week travelling way too fast and actually brushed against her arm as it flew past! I am outraged and at the end of my tether with this ridiculous set up.

I never would walk on those crummy uneven sidewalks in Bernard's Twsp. We always walk in the street and those drivers better be careful because my husband is a lawyer and we all know pedestrians always have the right of way.
We walk every day with the kids and the dog. I love walking and talking about their day. You can't do that if you're all lined up on a sidewalk.

Then walk in the park!! When your kid gets smacked by a car, you have only your selfishness to blame and your lawyer husband can sue all he wants, but it won't bring back your kid. Dumb!

Karen, I have read at least 25 million remarks on the Internet, and I would like you to know yours just made my list of top 5 most stupid remarks! You should be reported to DYFI for forcing your children to walk double or triple wide on busy streets when you know there are safer sidewalks nearby!

Steward, many have given the ultimate surafice to protect your right to free anonymous speech, including speech like this:

Now let me help you understand my feelings. You have every right in the world to demand people here use their real legal names. God Bless you and more power to you. You do not however have the right to jam your desires down everyone else’s throat, because at the end of the day your rights and no greater of lesser than my rights.
I despise and hate what that woman is doing in that picture. I find it of the utmost disrespect to every American who laid their lives down for our freedoms. That said, she not as dangerous of a person as you are to our liberties. Yes! At the end of the day she’s a real jerk, but you Steward, you at the end of the day are as un-American, and totally ignorance of what this REPUBLIC stands for, as anyone I’ve ever known.
Again that’s you right, have at it. But you cross the line when you try to use our so very corrupt government to shove your right down my throat.

"Now we face anonymous, faceless, nameless individuals from right-wing sources seeking to destroy a lifetime of work. And their scares are false. I have worked too hard and too long in the vineyards to allow, at my hands, for the harvest to be soured." US Senator Robert Mennedez

Oh wait, they require as a condition that you use your real name and even then that you comment through Facebook that then will own your content as TOS?

Karen, that is a very foolhardy attitude you have there. Pedestrians do not always have the right of way. Ask your lawyer husband about pedestrian safety (sometimes called jay walking) laws.

Karen...I agree! My spouse is a Partner in a BIG law firm and our whole family walks our black labs with all of us dressed in black down the turnpike every night. Those trucks better be careful or they will get sued! Well...our estate will sue them after our whole family gets hit and turned into chopped meat!
Yes I agree...one of stupidest posts I have ever read!
