Smartphones have been in the news more than usual lately. This week, Research In Motion founder and co-CEO Mike Lazaridis announced BlackBerry would offer $100 in free apps to make up for a recent service outage that had customers unable to make calls or send emails for days.
Blackberry's move comes at the same time Apple is sitting pretty with record sales of its iPhone 4S. This past weekend's sales were the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days. Customers reportedly bought more than 4 million units during that period.
And, of course, there is the current leader in smartphones, the Android, which comScore reported this month had reached a 43.7 percent market share according to August numbers.

I'll go ahead and say I use a Windows Phone with 'Mango'. Honestly, its pretty awesome and easy to use. Plenty of apps that are perfect for me.

iPhone is the industry standard. Others can copy it, but there's only one original.

I just upgraded from a four year old phone to a nice new smart phone. I've had my Samsung Galaxy S II for about a week now. The screen is bright and beautiful, even outside. I can hook it up to my computer and just drag and drop mp3s and various video files into its folders. (no iTunes needed.) The charging/data cable is an inexpensive micro USB, so I bought spares. I'm a video producer, and my videos look amazing on the phone. The 8 megapixel camera beats any other camera I own. I imported my Outlook contacts easily. The phone is real 4G and the connectivity has been good. I bought a 16 Gig micro SD card to hold my photos and HD video. The "gorilla glass" seems pretty tough. No scratches yet, and fingerprints don't show up too badly. (Still waiting for protective screen.) I can get 6-8 hours of use without budgeting my battery power. Still, I hope there's a bigger battery soon so I can keep on the GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and bright screen most of the time. Is an iPhone better? Maybe, but I didn't want to get locked into the Apple universe. I've downloaded every free app I could imagine, from Angry Birds to the Google Sky, and it's been good.
