Poll: What Should Replace Borders?

The building is still empty since book store closed.

Borders closed down several months ago, and, with the former store's sign still on the building, nothing has yet to take its place.

It's a large store in the heart of the Bridgewater commercial area, near Best Buy and across the street from the Bridgewater Commons Mall.

So, Bridgewater, we want to know what you think about the building—what should open there next?

Take our poll to let us know what you think should take the place of Borders. And tell us in the comments what specific kind of store you might like to see open in that complex!

Trader Joe's for sure! All TJ's are far from here with little parking-it would be a perfect fit!

Trader Joe's does sound great! I always wanted a Kohl's in this area, but not sure if it's a big enough space or parking lot...

Hillsborough Kohl's is less than 6 miles from that site. Closest TJ's is 17 miles away in Westfield. Florham Park is 23 miles away. I don't think Kohl's would put in another store so close. Trader Joe's has been negotiating to put a store in Bridgewater for many years. I don't know why it has fallen through each time. They know there is demand (though it never hurts to go on their website and remind them!)

I would LOVE a Joann Fabrics to go there. No decent fabric stores in this area -- at least no full-service ones. Though I love Trader Joe's, I desperately need a Joann's that is closer than than driving into Pennsylvania.

An indoor sports pavillion...like the one in Randolph would be great...so many athletes in these towns!

This reader was intrigued by the question "What Should Replace Borders?", assuming erroneously that it envisioned replacement of national borders, the existence and strict maintenance of which he has long espoused, believing as he does that the absence of borders like the absence of fences would be conducive to extensively prevalent bad neighborliness.

Trader Joe's or Whole Foods (though I think the space is too small for a Whole Foods).

How about.....nothing! Raze it and make it Green Acres, Open Space, or something enjoyable for the masses.

I happened to get a call from Trader Joe's regional vice president today (on an unrelated topic). He said they are actively considering the Border's site. Fingers crossed.

Another vote for Trader Joe's. Enough parking, easy access to I287 and other highways for delivery, far enough from residences to not be annoying, close enough to be handy. And we really, really need Trader Joe's.
