A Bridgewater-Raritan High School alumnus, and Raritan native, is looking for the vote of his former neighbors and others to get him an exciting new challenge—the chance to live in the actual MLB Fan Cave.
According to Brian Domingo, a Raritan native and current San Francisco resident, he is one of three Mets baseball fans, and one of 50 overall, named as a finalist in the 2012 MLB Fan Cave Contest.
The contestants from all over the United States and Canada are trying to win the opportunity to set up shop in the fan cave, located in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Domingo said.
“I learned about the contest while watching my favorite TV channel, MLB Network, and the opportunity to interview celebrities and star athletes was just too good to pass up,” he said.
The winners, Domingo said, get the opportunity to live in the actual cave.
The MLB Fan Cave is an immersive experience that hosts the winner of the MLB Dream Job competition, which brings the person in for the entire season to watch all regular season and postseason games, while chronicling experiences and sharing viewpoints on baseball through Facebook, Twitter and other online forms of media.
In addition, the fan cave hosts MLB players and celebrities, as well as parties and musical performances during the season.
“It would be sort of a homecoming for me, at least for a little while,” he said. “I can see myself hopping on NJ Transit to visit my parents, or even the other way around.”
Domingo—also a proud graduate of John F. Kennedy Primary School and the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School—said he would love to get the votes from as many people as possible.
Votes are collected for the contest on the website, and will be gathered until Feb. 22. According to the website, the 30 finalists with the most votes will be sent to spring training in Arizona to compete in boot camp-like challenges to determine the final group of candidates to participate in a season-long realty-show-like competition that will have fans voting them off during the season until one person is declared the winner as the World Series champion is found.
Currently, all 50 candidates have videos on the website, talking about why they would be the most qualified for the job.
“In the spirit of competition, of course I would love to win a spot,” he said, “but just as important it would be great to see any Mets fan represented at the Fan Cave.”
