The Route 202/206 South ramp is closed Friday while police investigate a two-car accident near the exit onto Commons Way.

The accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. Friday, and the Bridgewater Township Police blocked off the entire ramp along Route 202/206 South while the investigation continued.

Traffic was being diverted from the main road near the Green Knoll Grille off toward the municipal complex on Commons Way.

Patch will update as more information is made available.

I don't understand why accidents continue to occur in this spot and the simplest solution is to extend the ramp coming off 202/206 South where the exit for 287 South merges. I've lived here for 17 years and the reason most accident occur is you are trying to look back very quickly but if someone in front of you doesn't understand how to merge and they come to a complete stop, you have to watch so you don't rear-end them. The solution is to extend the ramp down the median about 1/4 mile or more and then allow people to feel comfortable getting to 55Mph speed to merge safely with the traffic coming off the highway. The other problem is there should be a way to exit 202/206 at the office complex and come back to Commons Way. The other reason for accidents is people try to dive across the 2 lanes to exit for commons way. If there was a way to exit further down the road and loop back to Commons Way, this could be avoided as well. Come on Township - start working on projects like these that matter to your constituents!

You can cut thru the office complex and get to Commons Way. I've done it many times when I couldn't get over in time.

Really? Thanks for letting me know. I thought that road only went into the parking area where you could then turn around to get out but didn't realize there was a way out directly.

How many more accidents are there going to be, before something is done about this - traffic coming onto that junction from a fast lane?????? Should never have been allowed to happen.

Definitely one of the worst merges ever.

I know some one that drives out of their way just to avoid it. Something needs to be done about it.

Mary is so right, a merge into a fast lane (and that lane is from cars that are really an exit off of 287. Explain that, the vehicles that are exiting are traveling at 55+ mph and the vehicles already on 202/206 south are attempting to merge into the fast lane)
