Diesel Fuel Leaked on Road After Route 202 Crash

A Bridgewater man suffered minor injuries in the Friday accident when a dump truck hit his vehicle.

Route 202 South and part of Milltown Road were closed for about three hours Friday morning after a dump truck struck another vehicle and began to leak diesel fuel in the road.

According to a release from the Bridgewater Township Police Department, Mario Vicuna, of Newark, was driving a dump truck on Route 202 south, but was unable to stop at the red light at the intersection with Milltown Road.

When the dump truck entered the intersection, the release said, it struck a Ford F150 begin driven by Brian Konsko, of Bridgewater, who was driving through the intersection, north on Milltown Road.

From there, the release said, Konsko's vehicle was pushed into a Mitsubishi Lancer, being driven on Milltown Road by Tawana Gordon, of Allentown.

Immediately following the crash, the release said, diesel fuel began to leak out of the dump truck and onto the road and the center median of Route 202 South.

The intersection was closed for about three hours while clean-up continued.

Konsko was taken to Somerset Medical Center with minor injuries in the crash.

Reporting to the scene were the Bridgewater Township Police, New Jersey Department of Transportation, Somerset County Hazardous Materials Response Team, Country Hills Fire Department, Bradley Gardens Fire Department and the Somerset Medical Center Rescue Squad.

Both Route 202 South and Milltown Road have reopened as of 11:30 a.m. Friday, according to Bridgewater Township Police, following a motor vehicle accident that shut down the area for about three hours.

Police are reporting that there is still some clean-up activity going on, so drivers should use caution when traveling through that area.

The crash is continuing to be investigated by Bridgewater Township Police Officer Doug Thorsen. Witnesses are asked to call 908-722-4111, ext. 4154.

On the Bridgewater Patch Facebook page, resident EJ Stankiewicz said the accident happened near Creme de la Creme on Route 202, and parents dropping off their kids had to park at the North Branch Fire House in Branchburg.

"[We were] walking the kids down with the smell of gas overwhelming in the air," he wrote.
