Musician Encourages Children To Be Silly Through Song

Children and families are treated to "Super Silly Songs" at the Bridgewater Township Library.

The songs were silly, and the kids were sillier, Saturday when the Bridgewater Public Library hosted Super Silly Songs with Kurt Gallagher.

Gallagher led funny children's songs, played his guitar and even a steel ukulele while more than 50 kids danced, jumped and sang along.

Parents joined in and danced along with their children to jazzed-up versions of songs like "London Bridge is Falling Down," "Baby Bumblebee," "Down By the Bay" and "If You're Happy and You Know It."

Gallagher asked for children volunteers from the audience to sing solo, and one brother-and-sister duo, without an ounce of stage fright, jumped in to help.  Joyce Spidare, 5, sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," and her brother Thomas, 3, later sang the ABCs.

"We just moved to the area temporarily, so we were looking for things to do, and our whole family loved it," said Joyce's and Thomas's father, Todd Spidare, of Raritan.

Caroline Younan, of Bound Brook, brought her 3-year-old daughter, Grace, to the event. Grace was shy at first, but by the end, was bopping along to the music.

"She's very excited and loves silly songs," Younan said.

For many of the kids, the most exciting part of the show came later on when Gallagher's bubble machine began to shower bubbles all over the jumping children in the audience.

Gallagher performs similar shows at various schools, nurseries and libraries all over New Jersey and New York, and will be returning to Bridgewater Library in the future.

Gallagher will also be raffling off a free show for one lucky person, and information can be found by visiting his website or on Facebook.
