The Weekend Begins With No Power for Many

Thousands of Bridgewater residents enter day five without power.

It's the fifth day after Hurricane Sandy hit the region, and more than 5,000 residents between JCP&L and PSE&G are still dealing with no power throughout Bridgewater.

Projections are still for power to return around Nov. 7 or so with both companies, as residents continue to deal with being in the dark.

These are the numbers as of 11 a.m. Saturday:

  • There is no change from PSE&G, with the number of people without power numbering between 5,001 and 10,000.
  • As for JCP&L, the number of residents without power at this point numbers 1,897, down from 2,038 Friday.

Lots of residents have posted on Facebook that they are still dealing with no power on locations like Crim Road, English Road, Allen Road, Carber Street, Thomae Avenue and Meadow Road.

Many businesses are open at this point, and allowing residents to come in and recharge, including the Somerset Valley YMCA in Somerville, which is offering showers to those who need it.

The Bridgewater Commons Mall has also fully reopened, with power fully returned, and will be holding its Trick or Treat program from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Likewise on stony brook. Cable trucks yes. Power no. And there is a large tree that is at a 60 degree angle over the roadway held up only by the power lines!

We live on laurel trail. Still without power and with a well, water is compromised also. There are power lines dangling across the roadway and trees and debris everywhere. I do not see how it is possible for a bus to get through our street on Monday morning unless the clean up is kicked into high gear tomorrow.

We are without power on Van Nest Drive too. PSE&G's website said that they are focusing on restoring Franklin Township in Somerset County this weekend. I hope that changes to Martinsville soon.

The tree at 384 stonybrook has now reached dangerous limits. The town has asked jcpl to turn power to grid off so they can safely remove. So far no response. This has 1300 families left without power. With elderly seniors here this is inacceptable. Please get message out to jcpl.

All along Washington Valley Road there is no power. Solomon, Joshua, Sarah, Adrian, Argonne Farm & Arrowsmith all without power. Past 5 days now. Try to get to rte 22 for basics and it will take over 30 mins, you will burn precious gas and run into many more streets without power but instead with trees over or across the road and/or power lines blocking access. It's a maze of dead ends. They finally closed off the roads with hazards but no one actually working on clearing them. Told power by Wed, don't even see how that can happen. Don't hear or see anyone out this way helping. Cold, tired & hungry.

I also don't believe their numbers, our group of streets are 50+ homes alone (& the outages are for miles around me) when my neighbor checked online today, under her account, it listed there are no outages in your area.......seriously!!!!!

Same thing... Nothing on bottom end of meadow road/Lenape trail.... Strange though.... There has been an optimum truck with a driver parked on rt 28 between church and meadow for 4 straight days.... Seems as if the grid that runs down meadow is always in the last batch of hookups... I was out 5 days for last years Oct snow storm.... Time to go for the whole house generator!!!!

Still no power here on Dell Wood Road in Martinsville! I haven't seen any trucks working in my area "where are they". When we had the Oct. storm last year we lost power for 3 days! We had 4 electrical fires on our road do to wires! They can and cap the wire and left and say they won't be back for 2 weeks! I thought the Govt. had the stand by trucks waiting to come out to the East coast before the storm "Where are they" Seriously.........

Well, I just lost power again on Monday evening at Bridgewater, after the power was restored last Friday. How does Pse&g explain that?
