Driver Killed After Car Hits Concrete Bridge on Rt. 22

Hunterdon County man dies in Monday morning accident near Morgan Lane in Bridgewater.

A Hunterdon County man was killed Monday morning after his vehicle went off the roadway and struck a concrete bridge support on Route 22, Bridgewater Police said.

Mark D'Agostino, 50, of Three Bridges, died following the crash that occurred just east of Morgan Lane at about 5:45 a.m.

Police are still investigating the accident, and said it's unclear what caused D'Agostino's 2012 Toyota Corolla to leave the roadway.

D'Agostino was taken to Somerset Medical Center by the Finderne Rescue Squad and Somerset Medical Center Mobile Intensive Care Unit paramedics, and was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m., police said.

Police said the vehicle hit the bridge support under the Foothill Road Overpass. The right lane of Route 22 was closed for about three hours as police investigated the accident.

New Jersey Department of Transportation officials, as well as Finderne fire and rescue volunteers and Somerset Medical Center paramedics also responded to the accident.

Anyone who witnessed the crash are asked to contact Bridgewater Township Police Officer Jason Daunton at 908-722-4111, ext. 4174.
