With thanks to township volunteers, administrators and the council itself, Mayor Dan Hayes delivered his State of the Township Address at Monday's reorganization meeting, citing that his goals for the future will continue to be maintaining a low tax rate, being vigilant in land use matters and paying attention to infrastructure.

Hayes spoke during his address first about the impacts of Superstorm Sandy on the township, and thanked emergency management officials for their quick action in working for the residents.

"Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on our town and state," he said. "While damage to property and our electrical grid was extensive, we were fortunate that we suffered no loss of life or serious injuries. For this, I want to thank all of our first responders, police, fire, rescue, township employees and civilian volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the storm to protect and serve our residents."

In addition, Hayes thanked the Bridgewater YMCA, JCC and other local businesses for pitching in to assist others, and singled out resident Neha Limaye Pallod, whose street on Sunset Lake was completely blocked off by fallen trees.

"During the storm, I worked with Neha to convey valuable information about what was happening and the township's efforts to bring relief," he said. "Today, she continues to press the utility company for improvements. I applaud her efforts and look forward to working with her to make positive changes for Bridgewater's JCP&L customers."

Hayes also spoke about what his vision had been for this past year in the township, and his continued hope for the future of Bridgewater.

"Our collective objective is and remains fulfilling resident needs while providing the highest quality service in the most helpful manner," he said.

To that end, Hayes said, the township will continue to work to keep the tax rate low, something that can be helped along by maintaining commercial ratable base. He cited many businesses that have opened and expanded throughout the township, and said he will continue to work with them and others to ensure the growth of the township's economy.

"I will remain active in the many partnerships and regional organizations that foster business development and job training," he said. "And I will continue my work with the Lt. Governor on promoting the many advantages of locating or expanding business in Bridgewater."

Overall, Hayes said, the township's goal is to continue providing excellence for the residents through its many programs, departments, officials and volunteers.

"I look forward to continuing to lead our township's very professional staff and working with the many dedicated volunteers as we move forward together building our township's future," he said.
