With the board of education elections coming on April 27, we thought it would be a good time to hear directly from the candidates themselves about the issues that matter to residents.

On four different days this week, we will feature video responses from the seven candidates on questions concerning the budget, curriculum and clubs.

For this third question, we asked the candidates about their thoughts on the language arts curriculum, and what changes they think need to be made to improve students' scores in that area.

Wow, Lisa Giranda is talking about reviewing curricula and doing research!! When she was on the Board, and even the CHAIR of the curriculum committee, she did nothing to make sure we were reviewing curricula on a regular basis. She also has the facts wrong about Everyday Math. This is not the first year of the new program! This is a joke. Her track record speaks for itself.

I agree with Mr. Mathur and Mr. Lerner. It's important to have a curriculum review process and I'm glad we now have one. There are many positive changes to the curriculum, including a more balanced math program, explicit instruction in language arts fundamentals, multisensory reading resources for struggling readers and the new Response to Early Intervention program for struggling students.
