Even the former Green Brook mayor attends the release party for Lombardi's book.
This week's episode of "Jerseylicious" put most of its emphasis on the launch party for the new fashion and glam book, "The Glamour State," by Anthony Lombardi—and even former Green Brook mayor, now deputy mayor, Jerry Searfoss got in on the fun. Searfoss made a brief appearance in the episode to show his support for the new book that uses glamorous photos of the "Jerseylicious" cast to depict important moments in New Jersey's history. But that small appearance was oveshadowed by the drama that never ever seems to take a night off. In-Home Piano Studio participated in the Mid-Atlantic Music Teacher's Guild Festival.
Bridgewater’s In-Home Piano Studio students brought home several trophies from the recent Mid-Atlantic Music Teacher’s Guild Festival (MAMTG). The private music studio, owned by Bridgewater resident AnnaRene’ Jeremiah, performed at the three-day festival in Whippany. MAMTG was founded by a group of professional music educators from the Tri-State area to establish and maintain high professional teaching and ethical standards; exchange music-related ideas, information and fellowship among colleagues; promote music education in the area; and provide a platform for area music students to display their talents in a competitive environment. Young dancers from Premiere Dance to be featured on Lifetime network reality show.
Young dancers from Somerset County will glide into the television spotlight later this year when they appear on Lifetime's "Dance Moms." Students from Premiere Dance of Bridgewater as well as the studio's Flemington location recently taped an episode of the show at Bernards High School in which they competed against students from the prestigious Abby Lee Dance Company in Pittsburgh, Pa. “When my mom told me we were going to be competing on Dance Moms, I was so excited, I was screaming and jumping around,” said Kylie Glinsky, 11, of Hillsborough, who performed a solo and with a small group. “It was so much fun! The students will perform in the 2013 National Association for Music Education conference.
A total of three Bridgewater-Raritan High School students received the prestigious honor of being accepted into the All-Eastern Division Conference Honors Band. This prestigious award is given to selected high school students as part of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME). Seniors Christopher Aiello, Nicolaus Schrum and Amulya Yalamanchili were chosen from high school musicians in 13 northeastern states and the District of Columbia to perform in the 2013 National Association for Music Education Eastern District Conference. Bridgewater, Bernards and Newark will go head to head in competition.
With bands from Bernards and Bridgewater in attendance, the Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster is hosting Battle of the Bands Saturday as part of Youth Art Month. According to a release from the center, this event is part of the Youth Art Month programming, and will be held Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the location on Burnt Mills Road in Bedminster. The event will feature performances by “Into the Trees” from Bernards High School, “Impulse” from Bridgewater-Raritan High School and “Panic Switch” from Newark Academy. The public is invited to attend the event, and the winning band will receive a $100 gift certificate to the Guitar Center. Admission is $5 at the door for the event. Refreshments will be served. This week, you can put on your beret and tap your inner artist by signing up for four (or perhaps one) long pose figure sessions with artist Maryann Ficker at the Watchung Arts Center, 18 Stirling Road, in Watchung. Classes will feature one model maintaining the same pose for all four sessions. The long sessions are designed to provide artists enough time to complete a figure painting or detailed drawing. The circus is coming to town, and TD Bank Ballpark is playing host to the Big Apple Circus’s “Legendarium.” This marks the 35th anniversary season production, and no seat is more than 50 feet from the performers themselves. The circus will be calling Bridgewater its home from Feb. 28 through March 17. According to a release from the county, the circus will feature trapeze artists, contortionists, acrobats, wire acts, inventors in hoops, aerial artists, juggling teams, bicyclists, horses, clowns and much more. March is Youth Art Month at the Center for Contemporary Art.
The Center for Contemporary Art, in Bedminster, is preparing for its 14th annual Youth Art Month, and students from Basking Ridge, Warren, Hillsborough and several others are going to see their work featured. The exhibition will take place throughout part of March in an exhibition of Somerset County student work done in partnership with Art Educators of New Jersey. Each year, according to a release from the center, every state submits a Youth Art Month report to the National Art Education Association, and awards of excellence are given out.
