We love Bridgewater Vet! I have a question I thought I'd post: We have a German Shepherd Hound Mix who is 6 mo. old - we're concerned that he has 'rapid transist.' He poops a LOT and it's notalways well formed - sometimes it's totally unscoopable! He eats Kirkland Puppy Food and takes Probiotics (FortiFlora). It seems like if he has anything else other than his meals he will poop sometimes up to 4 times a day! Is this normal? How can we help him or help us? We'd love to leave him with a Kong etc. when he's crated and we're not home, but we're too afraid it will bother him!

The first step for any pet with soft stool is a complete physical exam by a veterinarian and a stool samples needs to be checked for intestinal parasites. Based on exam findings, a treatment plan will be formulated. If the exam is normal, a conservative approach such as a diet change is a reasonable first step. If there are any abnormal findings on exam or if there is no response to a conservative approach, then a diagnostic route would likely be chosen. Four very soft stools per day is abnormal and should definitely be investigated.
