Fall Festivities Safety Tips

Here are some tips for keeping pets healthy during the fall months:

  • Place candy and treats where pets cannot reach them. Some of these yummy treats can be tasty for us but will make your furry buddy sick, especially chocolate. Also be careful with wrappers which can cause intestinal obstruction.
  • Wear reflectors when walking your dog to stay visible to drivers and if you and your furry buddy like to hike, be sure to wear bright colors to stay visible to hunters.
  • When taking walks and hiking, be weary of snakes and other animals preparing for hibernation. They can be "grumpy," increasing the possibility of bites.
  • If you are using any heaters in your home, be sure to turn them off before leaving to prevent any potential danger.
  • Watch those apples! Although apple peels don’t cause much of a problem, the seeds, stems and leaves can cause severe problems.
  • Due to all of the smells outside your pets’ noses will be very busy! Make sure microchip information is current.
  • Secure your pets before opening doors to trick-or-treaters. Don’t give your pet the opportunity to escape.
  • Watch out for fungi. Although most mushrooms are non-toxic, some can still cause problems for your pet.
  • Acorns can also be a big problem this time of year. Make sure your pet is not picking up these “toys” on your walk.
