The Somerset Valley YMCA welcomed back about 60 alumni of the Somerset
Valley YMCA swim team, who donned their suits to race the current crop of swimmers at the 8th Annual Somerset Valley YMCA Alumni Meet over Thanksgiving weekend.

 "These young people represented several different high schools when they were here, and many currently swim for some of the best universities in the country now," said Coach Matt Donovan, who has been at the helm of the program since
2000. 

The swimmers returned to the Bridgewater Y pool wearing suits and caps that represented the colleges where many of them now compete. They swam against members of the current SVY swim team at a meet that is generally more about fun than competition.

"Without question this is my favorite day of the year - to see so many great people that mean so much to me, this Y and this community reunite and share great memories," said Donovan.

The Y swim program builds discipline, inspires confidence and motivates kids to reach their potential.The Y swim team has for the past three years won the New Jersey YMCA state championship.

Swimmers come from all across Somerset County, and parts of Middlesex and Hunterdon counties.

Practice takes place at the Somerset Valley YMCA branches in  Bridgewater, HIllsborough and Somerville
