The restaurant was one of 3,700 others across the country earning one of three award levels in the program. Tbones received a distinction of a California wine strength in its moderate pricing range. According to the Tbones website, the restaurant has been honored because of its large selection of wines.
Bridgeway Senior Healthcare was recently recognized as a finalist for Nursing Home/Assisted Living Facility of the Year. Several representatives from the senior care provider were on hand at the Palace at Somerset June 21 to be recognized among healthcare professionals from across the state. According to a release from the center, Bridgeway was nominated as a Healthcare Hero because of its commitment to providing affordable quality care for seniors in central New Jersey, focusing on many different needs. Kevin Sun, 2011 Bridgewater-Raritan High School graduate, recently received an Excellence in Diversity Scholarship Award from the New Jersey Utilities Association. The NJUA chose five New Jersey students to receive scholarship funds. According to a release from the organization, the Excellence in Diversity Scholarship Awards are given to three minority, female or disabled students who will be attending an accredited college oruniversity to attain a bachelor's degree. Scholarships, the release said, are valued at $1,500 for each academic year. In total, 236 people applied for the scholarship. …
Students at the Somerset County Vocational & Technical School were awarded gold and silver medals at the June National Skills USA Championships in Kansas City. The competition—held by the National Skills USA organization in conjunction with industry, trade associations and labor organizations—was held in Kansas City June 22 and June 23. A total of about 5,600 career and technical education students competed, after having been state contest winners in leadership, trade and technical fields. An employee of a Bridgewater-based law firm was recently appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research, and Development by Gov. Chris Christie. Plainsboro resident Daniel Gaudalupe, of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., was appointed to the position Wednesday. A total of 32 students from Bridgewater-Raritan High School and other area schools received the High School Student of the Year award from the Somerville Elks Lodge #1068 at a recent dinner. The awards were given to one boy and one girl from each grade in Bridgewater-Raritan, Somerville and Immaculata high schools, and the Somerset County Vocational & Technical School. The Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School A.T.O.M.S. [Academic Tournament Open to Middle Schools] team defeated Summit in March in the annual competition for academically talented students, winning the entire tournament. The team, which is an offshoot of the Bridgewater-Raritan Invitational Tournament of Excellence [B.R.I.T.E.] for high school students, and the competition are sponsored by the Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association. A total of more than 640 students graduated from Raritan Valley Community College in the May 14 ceremonies, 64 of them from Bridgewater. The faculty address for the graduation was delivered by mathematics professor Lynne Kowski, and the commencement address was given by Petra Solar CEO Dr. Shihab Kuran. Bridgewater couple Betty and Arthur Roswell were honored by Temple Beth-El, in Hillsborough, during Shabbat services on April 22 and 23 for their dedication to the World Union for Progressive Judaism. The World Union functions in 47 countries, promoting an inclusive, welcoming and egalitarian expression of Jewish life. The Roswells have been instrumental in promoting the work of the World Union in the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and in Israel, traveling extensively in pursuit of this cause, and giving generously of their time, energy and resources. Three Bridgewater-Raritan High School students are part of the Central Jersey Math League, which competed at the American Regions Mathematics League at Penn State June 3 and June 4, with the A division team winning 39th place out of 64 teams. Junior Louis Brown is a member of the A division, and sophomores Andy Chen and Ivan Wong are on the B division team. The Central Jersey team also had team members from nine other local schools. In the power question part of the competition, the A division received 41 out of 50 points, placing 27th in that section.
Bridgewater-Raritan High School senior Ben Silber was one of several recipients of a $10,000 scholarship from the ZONED Sports Academy Inc., according to a release from the organization. ZONED Sports Academy gave out a total of eight scholarships this year to county students through its Baseball/Softball Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Award program. After a good fight, fundraisers and lots of practice the district's Odyssey of the Mind team placed 28th out of 66 competing teams in the World Finals in Maryland last weekend. The competition was held May 26 through May 30. In total, there were 858 teams participating in the championships from 33 states and 14 countries.
The Somerset County 4-H recently released the names of seven members receiving scholarships, including Bridgewater resident Angela Philipsheck. According to the release, a reception was held May 18 to honor the winners, with scholarships being awarded by the Somerset County 4-H Association; the Balliet family; the families of Joseph and Florence Klimas and Rob Fellows; and the Trainmasters 4-H Club. Quality care and advocacy for patients and colleagues netted Bridgewater resident and nurse Sharon Fishann Somerset Medical Center’s highest honor for nurses. A Martinsville resident is being honored for his service to the Golda Och Academy, a Jewish Day School in West Orange. Mark Lederman, of Martinsville, is a past president of the Golda Och Academy's board of trustees, and is being recognized at the annual tuition assistance dinner May 26. According to a release from the academy, Lederman oversaw many important developments at the academy. The New Jersey Department of Agriculture held its annual Agricultural Convention Delegates' Dinner Feb. 8 to honor people throughout the state who have recent achievements in agriculture. Rebecca Mueller, of Martinsville, was recognized as the New Jersey State Honey Princess, and Christina O'Brien, of Bridgewater, was recognized as a Somerset County Outstanding 4-Her.
