Old Man Winter appears to be sticking around a little longer. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Somerset County with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected by Thursday morning. The Somerset County senior centers in Hillsborough, Manville, Montgomery, Quail Brook, Raritan, Warrenbrook and the Senior Wellness Center in Bernards will be closed Wednesday. The Office on Aging and Disability Services in Somerville will be closed to “walk-ins” Wednesday for the safety of patrons. Clients needing information and assistance can call 908-704- 6346. Utility companies are warning customers to be prepared for the second round of winter's latest storm that is expected to produce as much as three-quarters of an inch of icy glaze by late Wednesday morning. As of 12:15 p.m., PSE&G was reporting that there were fewer than 500 Bridgewater residents who were currently without power. Recycling collections for some households will be delayed because of the icy conditions. Crews will be working Wednesday evening and Thursday to complete all pick-ups. With the inclement weather continuing into the night, the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District has now cancelled school for Thursday. The district had initially declared on Wednesday a two-hour delayed opening, but the storm continued through the night and dumped about a foot of snow by daybreak. The Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools on Vogt Drive also initially announced a delayed opening, but will instead have a full snow day. The snow is coming down, several hours earlier than was originally predicted, and the National Weather Service is predicting it will continue through Wednesday and possibly into Thursday morning, with the heaviest snowfall Wednesday evening. The prediction, according to the National Weather Service is for one to three inches during the day Wednesday, and four to eight inches possible in the evening.
