New Jersey law allows contributors who donate less than $300 to remain anonymous.
A published report Sunday revealed New Jersey’s current campaign donation system needs to be revised after it was disclosed politicians can receive more money while still keeping the names of their donors secret — as long as the contributions are less than $300. The NJ.com report said most states allow campaigns to keep only those donors who give $100, $50 or less private, but Garden State politicians don’t have to report any information about people who contribute less than $300. The report said because of the state’s secretive laws, candidates were able to hide about $12 million out of the $100 million donated. The state’s rule allowing campaigns to keep these donors anonymous could undergo a re-evaluation after one of the state’s most …

The candidates for this year's primary elections were announced Monday.
Republican incumbents Allen Kurdyla, Filipe Pedroso and Howard Norgalis are seeing re-election to the township committee in the November elections in Bridgewater. They will be challenged in November by Democrats George Jones, Bill Metz and Mary Pranzatelli. Monday was the filing deadline to run in the June primaries to be considered for the November ballot. Since none of the positions in the individual parties are contested, these six residents will be running for three open seats on the committee in November. Kurdyla, Norgalis and Pedroso were chosen to run by the Somerset County Republican Organization. Kurdyla and Norgalis will be finishing full three-year terms in November, while Pedroso will be finishing an unexpired term after he was…

And County Clerk Brett Radi said it could be because of the hurricane.
With only 60 percent of registered voters turning out for this year's presidential election, Somerset County Clerk Brett Radi said his gut feeling is that it was because of the hurricane. "I would have no way to answer other than with my gut," he said. "[In that case] absolutely it has to do with the hurricane." In prior years, Radi said, presidential elections brought out 80 percent of voters, including the last one in 2008. And this year, he said, only 60 percent showed up on Election Day. "And we had some communities where turnout was in the low 50 percent, like the northern communities," he said. "That's not typical of a presidential election." "Many of those areas are without power even today," he added. "I just got mine back Tuesday …
Filipe Pedroso was elected to serve on the township council.
A lifelong Bridgewater resident, Filipe Pedroso just wants to see the township thrive as he prepares to begin his first full term on council after winning in the Nov. 6 elections. "I am very pleased that the residents have confirmed that I have the right vision for Bridgewater," Pedroso said. "I have lived in Bridgewater for practically my entire life. I love this town dearly, and want to see it continue to be the absolute best place to live." Republican incumbent Pedroso, who is finishing an unexpired term this year after Dan Hayes was elected mayor in 2011, received a total of 8,621 votes, while Democratic challenger William Metz received 6,764 votes. "I hope to stay actively involved in the community doing some volunteer work, maybe …
Patrick Breslin, Jacqueline Barlow and Aaron Kurdyla won spots on the board of education in Tuesday's election.
One incumbent and two newbies will join the board of education come January after voters had their say in Tuesday's elections. Incumbent Patrick Breslin was elected to the board for his second term, earning 5,159 votes, while newcomers Jacqueline Barlow and Aaron Kurdyla earned 4,956 and 4,830 votes, respectively. "I am flattered that I got the support from so many people, and I had the help and enthusiasm of so many people who got our message out and got out to vote," Breslin said. "It's been a privilege to serve the last three years, and an honor to be given the chance to do that again for the next three." Barlow said she is excited about what's to come. "I'm very honored and humbled to actually be selected," she said. "I'm really …
'I'm a guy who tells the truth all the time and if the President of the United States did a good job, I’m going to say he did a good job.'
A day after President Barack Obama earned reelection, Governor Chris Christie dismissed critics who have accused him of bolstering the president during Obama's post-Sandy visit to New Jersey. “I wouldn't call what I did an embrace of Barack Obama," Christie said. "I'm a guy who tells the truth all the time and if the President of the United States did a good job, I’m going to say he did a good job." Speaking to reporters as Winter Storm Athena prepared to batter the already storm-shocked state, Christie was also quick to dismiss speculation of a 2016 presidential run, saying that the life and death issues inherent with back-to-back storms have made politics a minor focus for now. “I've got a job to do in New Jersey. My future, whatever it …

Wednesday, November 7, 2012
Somerset County Republicans came together Tuesday night at the Somerville Elks Club to celebrate election day and the end of their campaigns. For some, like District 7 Congressman Leonard Lance (R), the vote margin by the end of the night was large enough for multiple reports to call the election in his favor. For others, like incumbent Freeholders Patrick Scaglione and Mark Caliguire, as well as District 16 Assemblywoman Donna Simon, their slim leads coupled with provisional and fax or email ballots still to be counted, the victories were still not stamped Tuesday evening. However, each candidate celebrated what they believed to be victories with each other at the Elks Club. "We need to work together in a bi-partisan manor to solve our …

Hey Kramit, there are many of us Bush followers around, and proud of it, we had it better than we do now with O'vomit and we paid $ 1.87 for gas when George left office. The price of gas has doubled under this idiot, and he refuses to do anything about it. If he wanted to do something about the gas prices he could, if he signed the Keystone pipeline bill, between that and the oil coming out of …   more ›
