Full slate of candidates expected to face off in General Election in November.
Next Tuesday is the last day to register to vote in the Primary Election, to be held June 4. The Somerset County offices on Grove Street will have extended hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday for anyone still looking to register. There will be no local race in this year’s primary as Republicans and Democrats each submitted three candidates for the three available seats. Incumbent Republicans Allen Kurdyla, Howard Norgalis and Filipe Pedroso will be challenged by Democrats George Jones, Bill Metz and Mary Pranzatelli. Independent candidates have until 4 p.m. June 4 to file nominating petitions to be on the November ballot. For more information on registering to vote, click here.

New Jersey law allows contributors who donate less than $300 to remain anonymous.
A published report Sunday revealed New Jersey’s current campaign donation system needs to be revised after it was disclosed politicians can receive more money while still keeping the names of their donors secret — as long as the contributions are less than $300. The NJ.com report said most states allow campaigns to keep only those donors who give $100, $50 or less private, but Garden State politicians don’t have to report any information about people who contribute less than $300. The report said because of the state’s secretive laws, candidates were able to hide about $12 million out of the $100 million donated. The candidates for this year's primary elections were announced Monday.
Republican incumbents Allen Kurdyla, Filipe Pedroso and Howard Norgalis are seeing re-election to the township committee in the November elections in Bridgewater. They will be challenged in November by Democrats George Jones, Bill Metz and Mary Pranzatelli. Monday was the filing deadline to run in the June primaries to be considered for the November ballot. Since none of the positions in the individual parties are contested, these six residents will be running for three open seats on the committee in November. Kurdyla, Norgalis and Pedroso were chosen to run by the Somerset County Republican Organization. With only 60 percent of registered voters turning out for this year's presidential election, Somerset County Clerk Brett Radi said his gut feeling is that it was because of the hurricane. Somerset County Republicans came together Tuesday night at the Somerville Elks Club to celebrate election day and the end of their campaigns. For some, like District 7 Congressman Leonard Lance (R), the vote margin by the end of the night was large enough for multiple reports to call the election in his favor.
