The Elks' mission is to use the principles of charity, justice, brotherly love and fidelity and working to promote the welfare and happiness of its members and serve its community through different programs.

Specific events at the Somerville Lodge have included blood drives, bingo games and working with its service project, the Somerset Handicapped Children's Treatment Center, in the building adjacent to the Elks Lodge.

Its national program provides college scholarships to graduating seniors, sponsors an Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Program for children ages eight to 13, distributes information about drug awareness, holds youth activities and more.
