Grand Opening: Sept 8-15, Mom's Crazy Treasures, A Family Thrift Store
Mom's Crazy Treasures, A Family Thrift Store will celebrate their Grand Opening from September 8 through September 15, 2012 from 10am to 7pm. The public is invited all week long to enjoy free refreshments, a free coupon swap, and to enter a free, no-purchase-necessary drawing for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Golden Corner Diner. The lucky winner will be drawn and announced on Saturday, September 15th at 6:30pm. A 10% discount will also be awarded to the first 10 people to arrive each day during the Grand Opening week.
Located on Route 28 at 311 West Union Avenue in Bound Brook between the Golden Corner Diner and Blithe Travel, Mom's Crazy Treasures is owned by Daniel Esparza and his wife Analise of Manville, NJ. Mom's Crazy Treasures is open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 7pm and offers additional parking conveniently behind the building.
Already the owner of a thriving business, Danny the Mason LLC, some might ask why a master stone mason would ever decide to open a thrift store, especially during his busy season. “We are very lucky,” says Daniel, “but it wasn't always this way.”
“When Daniel first started out on his own, it was incredibly tough,” said Analise. “If it weren't for The Food Bank and thrift stores, I don't know what we would have done.... So it's our turn now. We're so thankful and we want to give back.”
To give back, Mom's Crazy Treasures supports several local charities, including the Food Bank Network of Somerset County. In addition to being a permanent drop-off location for food donations, Mom's Crazy Treasures is also helping the Food Bank Network of Somerset County secure much-needed items for their Back Pack Program, a program designed to provide children who are at risk of hunger with a bag of nutritious food each Friday throughout the school year. Children in the program are provided with reusable, discreet backpacks that are filled with easy-to-open foods that do not require stovetop cooking. Donations of small, individual servings of foods such as Beef stew, Tuna, Oatmeal instant packets, milk, juiceboxes, snacks, cereal, and fruitcups are ideal and can be dropped off any time at Mom's Crazy Treasures.
Also, beginning on September 20th, every Thursday night from 6pm-7pm Mom's Crazy Treasures will also be a classroom for the budget-conscious and penny-wise. On “Thrifty Thursdays,” the store features free evening programs on topics such as couponing, tight-budget meals, and food storage, to name just a few. Of course, that is in addition to the furniture, clothing, shoes, books, toys, housewares, small appliances, comic books, audiobooks, and other terrific bargains typically found for sale in thrift stores.
Mom's Crazy Treasures also offers customers a free service called “Find It For Ya.” “Say, for example, you need bunk beds,” says Daniel. “Let us know. Before we put them out on the floor to sell, we'll hold it and call you first.” And if the item is not your taste, there's never any obligation to buy it.
The store, once a wistful dream for the couple, officially opened it's doors on August 4, 2012, with the help of mother, Leslie Pascual, father Al, sister Kyala, and a handful of friends. “My mom and I have always been avid yard-salers and thrift shoppers. She is the true inspiration for this store. We love the idea of someone's unneeded item having a brand new life with someone who could really use and appreciate it,” says Analise.
“We can't improve the economy,” says Daniel, “but together we can educate people and help people improve their situations like they have helped us.”
