More About Somerset County Offices & Institutions: Park Rangers
Somerset County Offices & Institutions: Park Rangers
Park Rangers lead three different types of programs: Tree Identification, Fishing Our Parks Waterways and Interpretive Hikes. The first program teaches how to identify trees and shrubs in all different seasons, while the second teaches fishing basics, including the identification of fish, state fishing laws, fishing etiquette and different fishing hotspots. The final program teaches the environment and its inhabitants, explains what kinds of animals live in the area and takes people on hikes.
The Park Rangers are always accepting applications for the Volunteer Park Patrol, a group of volunteers who assist visitors through trail patrols and maintain the trails in Washington Valley Park and the Sourland Mountain Preserve.
Junior Rangers are six- through 12-year-olds who learn about how ecosystems work and help the Park Rangers themselves. Workbooks for Junior Rangers can be found in Colonial Park and Duke Island Park.
