Group hopes to heighten awareness of 10 sites in need of preservation funding.
A state historic preservation advocacy group released its list of the most endangered New Jersey sites Wednesday, detailing damage, some Superstorm-Sandy related, that has put 10 landmarks at risk for demolition. Properties that were classified as the "most endangered" have architectural and historic integrity with an identified threat and Preservation New Jersey, the organization that compiled the list, felt their inclusion could potentially help legislators realize the importance in preserving them. Included on the list is Morris County's Glen Alpin property in Harding Township. The Gothic Revival mansion is threatened by a need for sustainable use, according to Preservation New Jersey. The Morris Canal Rockaway River Aqueduct, in …

The Rotary Club of Bridgewater and Bound Brook asked for $2,400 to pay for police and DPW.
Although they agree that it will be a beneficial event for the residents themselves, members of the Bridgewater Township Council were hesitant to agree to a $2,400 cost for aiding with the planned street fair being held by the Rotary Club of Bridgewater and Bound Brook. In the end, the council opted not to approve the waiver request. Elly Ezra, of the Rotary Club, spoke before the committee at Thursday’s meeting, and requested that Bridgewater pay for two police officers to keep the street closed during the fair, and for public works workers to remove trash bags once the event is over. The street fair is planned for June 1 on East Main Street in front of TD Bank Ballpark, and this is the first time it is being held. “We got permission from…

Legislation awaits Gov. Chris Christie's signature.
Bipartisan legislation was approved Monday to dedicate the Route 206 bypass to late Assemblyman Peter Biondi. The legislation was sponsored by Sen. Days before, he had won re-election to serve the 16th district in the Assembly, which he did for 14 years. Biondi had previously served as mayor of Hillsborough, and as a Somerset County freeholder, and was instrumental in moving the Route 206 bypass project forward. The municipal building in Hillsborough was previously named the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Building in honor of his service. "Peter Biondi lived the life of a true public servant, dedicating his …
T-Mobile held a balloon test at the library to determine the visibility of a possible tower.
T-Mobile held a balloon test Saturday in an effort to determine the visibility of a possible cell tower off to the side of the Bridgewater Township Library. The balloon could be seen from a few locations around the library, and the intersections of surrounding residential streets. The balloon could also be seen from certain areas surrounding the Prince Rodgers Baseball Field. The T-Mobile balloon test had first been scheduled for May 4 and then May 11, but both were cancelled because of forecasted high winds. With a settlement possible, T-Mobile conducted the balloon test to determine if there is a possibility for constructing a cell tower in a location other than the Green Knoll Fire House. The zoning board, in May 2012, denied an …
