Brain training encouraged during National Youth
Sports Week

LearningRx Warren highlights
benefits of brain training in sports and other areas of life

July 23, 2013 -  While
National Youth Sports Week, which we celebrate this week, stresses the
importance of organized athletics, LearningRx Warren is stressing the value of
brain training for athletes of all ages. LearningRx is known for impressive
gains in academic performance, but
brain training can be a valuable training program for athletes as well.

“Our brain training absolutely helps in all areas of life,”
says Marcia Douglas, Owner and Executive Director of the Warren area LearningRx
brain training center. “We use it to improve focus, attention, memory, visual
and auditory processing skills and even hand-eye coordination. Basically, our
training builds better, faster more efficient brains, permanently. Of course
that will help people become better athletes.”

Forty-five million children participate in organized sports across the
nation each year, but according to the National Center for Educational Statistics,
less than 1 percent of them will be good enough at any sport to earn a college
athletic scholarship. Douglas says that’s another reason brain training is such
a valuable investment. “Brain training will continue to pay off in many areas
of life long after your child’s playing days are over. Yes, it brings
significant improvements on the playing field now, but it also provides skills young
athletes can take with them into the classroom or on to college – something
that will give them an advantage for the rest of their life.”

Two years after finishing LearningRx brain training,
16-year-old Zach Knutsen says he still recognizes the benefits on a daily
basis. “I know I’m a much better wrestler because of LearningRx,” says the high
school senior. “I can read situations quicker and easier, and I can work on a
move while mentally planning three or four moves ahead. Plus my grades are
better, I can finish my homework much faster, and my memory is really
impressive – way better than before the brain training.”

LearningRx Vice President of Research and Development Tanya
Mitchell says remarkable gains in athletic performance are a common result at
LearningRx, even for kids who are in brain training to boost academic ability.
“Another nearly universal result of our brain training is an extreme boost in
self-confidence,” says Mitchell. “That obviously will help athletes get the
mental boost they need to thrive. Any athlete will tell you, confidence is
key.”
