Careless Driving???

Not long ago, I was involved in a little fender bender. An accident in which, Vehicle 1 was making an illegal U turn and Vehicle 2 was with Vehicle 1. As Vehicle 1 turned into a driveway - he apparently stopped. Vehicle 2 didn't move. Vehicle 3 was also stopped behind Vehicle 2. Vehicle 2 was on the downward side of a slope and Vehicle 3 was at the crest. I did not see vehicle 2 because it was on the other side of the slope and Vehicle 3 was higher than Vehicle 2. I did see Vehicle 1 turn into the drive. I had anticipated Vehicle 3 to move forward after seeing Vehicle 1 pull into the driveway. I did not have my foot on the gas pedal - it was covering the brake but I did not brake. I realized too late, that Vehicle 3 was not moving and thereby hit Vehicle 3 which then hit Vehicle 2. That was the first time I realized that there was a Vehicle 2. Long story short - the Police did not get my side of the story. Vehicle 1 and 2 - left the scene of the accident. The Police did not ask for a description of Vehicle 1 or 2 and did not ask for a description of the drivers. The police report is not accurate and to add insult to injury - they issued me a careless driving summons. The Officer made it a point to note that all I had to do was pay the fine and that if I did so, I would not have to go to Court.

The following week, my neighbor was involved in a small accident as well. No damage, not a big deal. She misjudged the distance and slightly bumped the vehicle in front of her at a Red Light. She was issued a Wreckless driving summons.

A few days later, during a rain storm - a friend was involved in an accident where he hydroplaned and slightly damaged the fender of another vehicle. He was issued a Careless driving summons.

I'm wondering if the Police have found a new way to garner revenue from the tax paying public? There seems to be a pattern here - where the Police write Careless and Wreckless Driving summons just because they can. It actually sounds like a racket to me. Afterall - all you have to do, is pay the ticket and you don't even have to go to Court. Who wants to go to Court - any way?

Back in the good ole days, I had great respect for the Police. Now, I only have contempt for them. For instance, 30 years ago, if you had a head lamp out - they would pull you over to inform you that your head lamp was out and that it should be repaired. Today, they write you a ticket. You can ask my wife - 2 years ago, she received a ticket for a broken head lamp.

The Police are suppose to be there to Serve and to Protect. Instead, they have become fund raisers for the Government. Get into an accident and you'll find yourself receiving a Careless Driving ticket just because you were involved in an accident.
