BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonder of nature as winter begins to arrive Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

 

 

CHILDREN & TEEN PROGRAMS

 

Young Explorers Club

            Mondays, January 6, 13, and 27 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will experience the wonders of

            nature through outdoor activities to stimulate the five senses.

            Fee is $22 per pair and $11 per additional child for the 3-day session

KinderNats

            Mondays, January 6, 13, and 27 from 4:15 P.M. to 5:15 P.M.

Children ages 5 to 7, who are enrolled in kindergarten and first grade will

            study science and explore the natural world through games,

            Naturalist-led activities, and more.

            Fee is $18 per person for the 3-day session.

Tree House Gang

            Tuesday, January 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 12:45 P.M. to 3:15 P.M.

Children ages 3 to 5 will be entertained and educated at these afternoon

                        science and nature classes. Program will include hikes, hands-on

                        activities, interacting with live animals, and creating crafts.

Fee is $65 per person for the 4-day session..

The Green Team

            Saturday, January 11 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

            Children ages 12 to 15 who have to fulfill a community service

requirement for school will enjoy the educational and fun activities

            at the Environmental Education Center.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Nature Through A Child’s Eye

            Saturday, January 4 through Sunday, February 2 from 9:00 A.M. to

                        4:30 P.M daily except holidays

            The entire family will enjoy the annual environment and nature art show                            featuring works from children from kindergarten through grade six                      in Somerset County schools.

            Admission is free.

 

Forest Fitness

            Tuesdays, January 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

            Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

            Fee is $20 for the 4-day session.

Staying Warm

            Sunday, January 12 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will learn how different kinds of animals

can stay warm during the coldest times of year.

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch

Park in Bridgewater.  The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
