Therapeutic Rec Plans Fun Programs During Teacher's Convention

THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PLANS FUN PROGRAMS DURING TEACHER’S CONVENTION

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Somerset County Park Commission Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Department has planned two exciting fall programs to provide organized activities while school is closed for the upcoming teacher’s convention.

Fall Funtastic is scheduled for Thursday, November 7 and Friday, November 8, 2013 at the TR Activity Center, 355 Milltown Road in Bridgewater, New Jersey. The programs will run from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. each day and will involve organized hands-on activities in contrast to sitting around the house on the school holidays.

Let’s Discover on Thursday, November 7 from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. is open to children age 6 to 13 with a developmental disability. Participants will discover how dinosaurs lived and what they ate in addition to participating in a dig to assemble a mysterious creature. The adventure will continue with a Park Naturalist who will lead an interactive journey to explore the world of birds and other wildlife and their environment. A snack and craft will round out the day. Fee for the program is $45.00.

Busy Builders on Friday, November 8 from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. is open to children age 6 to 13 with a developmental disability. Participants will enjoy a LEGOS-based interactive program with Bricks 4 Kidz, taking LEGOS bricks to new heights by building super-cool models that spin and twirl. Additionally, a Park Naturalist will illustrate methods for discovery of how to identify animals by their tracks and signs they leave behind. A yummy snack and colorful craft will add to the fun. Fee for the program is $45.00.

Registration will be accepted Monday to Friday on a first-come-first-served basis if space is available. Families may choose one or both sessions. Participants must reside in a contracting municipality in Somerset County. Call the TR office at 908-526-5650 (Individuals with a hearing/speech impairment call the Relay Service at 711) or visit the website at www.somersetcountyparks.org to verify municipal eligibility. Participants must bring a lunch and beverage.
