Bring Food Donations to Ballpark, June 3

BRIDGEWATER – Freeholder Director Patrick Scaglione invites baseball fans to step up to the plate and help the hungry in Somerset County by bringing canned food donations to the June 3 game at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Somerset Patriots will play the York Revolution starting at 7:05 p.m.  A table staffed by Curbing Hunger Inc. volunteers will be set up near the turnstiles at the ballpark entrance starting at 5:30 p.m.

Anyone bringing at least one can of food as part of their admission will receive a two-for-one voucher for the June 3 game.  Pre-paid ticket holders can use the voucher for another game during the 2014 season.

The food collection at the ballpark is being held as part of the 20th annual Curbing Hunger Month food drive in Somerset County.  The Somerset County Board of Freeholders and Governor Chris Christie have proclaimed June as Curbing Hunger Month and encourage county residents to put food donations in plastic bags at the curb on their regular recycling days throughout the month.  Donated food goes to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County, the Franklin Township Food Bank and other local food pantries.

This is the 20th year of the curbside food drive in Somerset County.  Canned-food donations will be collected at the curb on residents' recycling days June 2 through 27.  Look for the orange Curbing Hunger bag tied to your blue recycling bucket, or use any plastic grocery bag – just write “food” on it.  There also is an online donation option at www.curbinghunger2014.org
