5 Things to Know About Redistricting

Tuesday's board of education meeting may mark the final discussion about before a decision is made during the first meeting in April. So to get everyone set for this discussion, we present five important facts to know about the redistricting options.

  • AI Program—Much talk has centered around moving the out of , and bringing it to . Some have said they want to make sure not to split that program, and discussions have focused on whether this would be a disruption for the students and if there is enough room in Hamilton for the move.
  • Rerouting Buses—Several board members are not favor of this, saying it could potentially bring too many students in one grade, while also splitting neighbors and leading to additional rerouting in the future.
  • Autism Classes—The task force has set up some possibilities of moving some of these classes, and board members are discussing whether they should just bring all incoming students to a different school, or whether it would be best to split the resources.
  • Bradley Gardens—Discussions have waned on whether to move students to , the most underutilized school in the district. There are concerns over lunch lines and other services there, plus breaking up some of the programs would require students to be bused to opposite ends of the district.
  • No Schools Closing—Among the to the board, none involved closing any of the currently used buildings. Task force members said it would not be feasible or cost effective to do so.
