5 Ways to Help the Environment

Check out our list to help get your day started.

Bridgewater is known to be very environmentally conscious, saving energy through solar panels, building a LEED-certified municipal complex and other work being done to help the Earth. So with Holidays on the Net declaring today National Cut Your Energy Costs Day, we offer five ways to be environmentally conscious, both for energy and other savings, in your own homes.

  • Don't Leave Lights On—We know you're not in every room of your house at all times, so make sure to turn off the lights when you leave a room.
  • Start Using Rain Barrels—The township has offered seminars for building your own rain barrel in the past, so what better time than the present to start using one? Rain barrels reduce the amount of water going into streams and rivers during heavy storms. Look out for the next set of workshops in town, and start using your own!
  • Turn Off The Heat When Not Home—We know it's cold this time of year, and heaters are working full time. But what about when you're not in the house? There's really no need for high heat when you're not home, so turn the heater off, and just turn it back on when you return.
  • Use Reusable Bags—There's lots of shopping at all times of the year, and what better way to save the environment during that time than by using a reusable bag? Put items in the bags, put the items away and then use the bags again!
  • Read Bridgewater Patch—Yes, this is a little bit of shameless promotion, but Bridgewater Patch is completely online, thereby saving paper. So get on that computer and head over to the website to check out your latest news!
