Anti-Gay Message Left on Receipt for Waitress a Hoax, Customer Says

Bridgewater family shows billing statement revealing $18 tip was added to bill and denies criticizing Bedminster woman's 'lifestyle.'

A family that Gallop Asian Bistro waitress Dayna Morales said withheld a tip for her after dining at the restaurant on Nov. 13 says the story is untrue.

According to a report aired on NBC New York News, the family said they have a copy of the credit card billing statement showing an $18 tip was actually added to the $93.55 dinner bill.

"(We) don't think that way; most tolerant people—I don't care what you do in your life if you're a good person," according to a woman said to be the customer—whose identity was not revealed and is only has her shadow shown in the interview.

The controversy went viral, as Morales, a U.S. Marine vet, was interviewed by various news outlets. Her fellow employees at Gallop Asian Bistro stood by her after the reports, and many supporters sent money to her to replace the missing tip—which she said she has been donating to the Wounded Warriors Project.

When NBC reporter Brynn Gingras asked Morales about the discrepancy, the Bedminster resident said she understood why the family would be upset but said it's not her handwriting and did not offer any explanations.

"Obviously, the restaurant profits from this, obviously Dayna is profiting from this—and it's fraud, it's a scam," a man, also shown in shadow, said in the NBC interview.
