Brian Dixon!

  • Age: 16
  • Community Organization:
  • Accomplishment: Brian Dixon was accepted into the Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s Young Artists Wind Ensemble Program for the trumpet.
  • Key to Awesomeness: Tanglewood Music Center, in Massachusetts, has been the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1937, and is a highly prestigious place to study music. This summer, Brian is fortunate enough to be attending the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI) for its Young Artists Wind Ensemble program where he will earn four college credits. The wind ensemble program is a four-week program in July that will have two concerts under distinguished conductors David L. Martins and H. Robert Reynolds. In order to be accepted into BUTI, Brian prepared and had a recording made of himself playing part of the "Arutunian Trumpet Concerto," the first movement of the Hummel Trumpet Concerto and three orchestral trumpet excerpts. He had a professional recording made with piano accompanist Marsha Maull at Tullen Sound Recording in Morristown. Brian is very excited for an outstanding summer of knowledge and growth as a musician at BUTI. He strives to become the best musician he can be. He currently studies trumpet privately with Joe Eggebeen and is a member of the New Jersey Youth Symphony. This year, Brian was selected as the first chair trumpet player in the NJMEA All-State Band and Orchestra. Brian plans to audition for colleges and conservatories next year to pursue a degree in music performance.
  • Nominator: Jane McElroy, Bridgewater resident
