BRHS Student Speaker Receives Diversity Scholarship

Kevin Sun was named as a recipient of the Excellence in Diversity Scholarship Award.

Kevin Sun, 2011 graduate, recently received an Excellence in Diversity Scholarship Award from the New Jersey Utilities Association.

The NJUA chose five New Jersey students to receive scholarship funds.

According to a release from the organization, the Excellence in Diversity Scholarship Awards are given to three minority, female or disabled students who will be attending an accredited college oruniversity to attain a bachelor's degree. Scholarships, the release said, are valued at $1,500 for each academic year.

In total, 236 people applied for the scholarship.

Receiving the scholarship aside from Sun were Barnegat resident Danielle Judka and Cape May resident Meaghan Mann.

The NJUA also awarded two James R. Leva Scholarships, according to the release. This scholarship is given to assist two NJUA member company employees who are working in the state or a member of their family in pursuing higher education.

The scholarship, the release said, is given as a one-time $4,000 award.

Recipients of the award are Bloomfield resident, and PSE&G employee, Janell Poindexter and Tabernacle resident, and son of JCP&L employee Paul Rottau, Dean Rottau.

“The investor-owned utility industry understands and appreciates the value of higher education and is pleased to be able to award funds to these five promising students to help them afford to attend college,” said NJUA President and Chief Executive Officer Karen Alexander in the release.

Students, including Sun, were recognized at a conference in Galloway June 9.
