Bridgewater Boys Named Eagle Scouts

Kevin Gibney and Daniel Sutter have earned these prestigious awards.

Bridgewater residents Kevin Gibney and Daniel Sutter have recently been named Eagle Scouts, the highest level in scouting.

Both are members of Boy Scout Troop 88 in Bridgewater.

A ceremony, the Eagle Scout Court of Honor, was held Jan. 15 to celebrate the achievement, as the two boys each received a Proclamation of Outstanding Achievement from Bridgewater Township Mayor Dan Hayes. In addition, each scout was presented with a flag that flew over the United States Capitol Building, courtesy of Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

The scouts also received several commendations for their hard work.

Gibney, currently a junior at , completed a service project to become an Eagle Scout that involved the inspection and recording of global positioning coordinates of storm drain inlets in the Bradley Gardens section of town. The Bridgewater Engineering Department, in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, will use the data he collected.

During his time in scouting, Gibney has earned 27 merit badges, been awarded the Bronze Palm and has participated in several programs, including Maine and North Carolina High Adventure Treks.

Aside from scouting, Gibney is a member of the marching, jazz and symphonic bands, and enjoys track and field. He is also part of a church youth group at Holy Trinity RC Church.

Sutter, currently a student at the University of Delaware, held a donation drive for his Eagle Scout project in cooperation with St. John's Episcopal Church in Somerville. The project involved collecting, packaging and distributing toiletries, clothing and household goods for those in need.

Sutter graduated from Bridgewater-Raritan High School where he was a member of the varsity volleyball game, while also taking part in the symphonic band and the Peer Mediation and Mentor-Transition Group.

During his time in scouting, Sutter has earned 21 merit badges, while also participating in several programs, including the Philmont New Mexico High Adventure Program and Forestburg Summer Camp.
