Bridgewater Man Retires From Y Board After 20 Years

A Bridgewater resident was honored for 20 years of service to the Somerset Valley YMCA after he stepped down from the board of directors Dec. 31.

James Redington spent 20 years on the board, and is a longtime member of the Bridgewater YMCA.

“Jim was a conscientious board member who worked tirelessly to get things done,” said YMCA board chair Andrea Thorne in a release. “He gave his time and talents for over 20 plus years, and always enjoyed helping impact the community he served. I will miss his contributions at board meetings and his great sense of humor.”

Redington, the release said, served on the building and grounds committee at the Y, and was instrumental in opening the Hillsborough branch on East Mountain Road.

“Jim was always available to help and was a die-hard Y person, not only as a board member but as a member,” said board member Morgan McLachlan in the release. “He made sure any urgent problems were fixed, as well as had the foresight to plan for eventual replacement and repair of our systems. He will be greatly missed on our board, but we are pleased he was willing to serve us for so long.”

Redington said he was proud to be part of the board. He said he was especially pleased that he could be part of the group that got the pavilion built at the Bridgewater Y.

“It was an honor to work with everyone and it’s been a wonderful experience  to grow with the Y,” he said. “It was an honor to be able to give back to the community through my work as a Somerset Valley Y board member.”
