Charity Tournaments to Help Those in Need

Looking for exciting weekend activities and family-friendly fun? You're in the right place.

Lots of events for charity this weekend, with a Texas Hold'em tournament and another event to aid those affected by Hurricane Irene.

But there's plenty of other things going on, and below is the combination of our weekly pick of weekend activities and our Grab & Go Kids Planner, offering both fun weekend activities and great family-friendly fun at the same time.

From 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Friday at the  in Bridgewater.
Why Go: 
To ante up for diabetes with a game of Texas Hold'em, hors d'oeuvres and a sports memorabilia silent auction. All proceeds to benefit Juvenile Diabetes awareness.
Pricing: 
$100 entry fee. [$2,000 in chips] 


When/Where: 
At 7 p.m. on Sunday at The Bridgewater Marriott in Bridgewater.
Why Go: 
Because it only take a minute to meet that special someone. The evening includes appetizers, games, raffle prizes and eight 8-minute dates.

When/Where: 
From 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the  in Bridgewater.
Why Go: 
For children ages 3 to 8 to celebrate an Autumn "craftacular" with stories and activities.
Pricing: 
Free. 


When/Where: 
At 5 p.m. on Saturday for high school participants. At 8 a.m. on Sunday for Men's over 35, and from 10 to 11 a.m. for Men's Open, and Women's Open at the  in Bridgewater.
Why Go: 
To hit the court with your best shot. Enjoy friendly competition with some 3 on 3 basketball or 3-point shooting contest. Everyone's a winner.
Pricing: 
$20 per HS entrance fee. $120 / 3 person team. $160 / 4 person team. $10 per 3 point shooting entry.


When/Where: 
At 7 p.m. on Friday at the Soho Lounge at The La Quinta Inn in Somerset. 
Why Go: 
Because Virgin Vinyl will be joined by two other great bands, High In The Mid 80's and High Maintenance, to create a night of music, dance, and giving. Help those who have suffered losses from Hurricane Irene and the flooding rains. All proceeds are being donated to the American Red Cross.  
Pricing: 
Donations appreciated for cover charge.  


When/Where: 
At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday at  in Bernardsville.   
Why Go: 
To click your heels and follow the road to entertainment with the Hexagon Players of Mendham and a few munchkins.
Pricing: 
$20. Tickets available at hexagonplayers.org. Cash only at the door.


When/Where: 
At 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Villagers Theatre in Somerset.
Why Go: 
Because it's a prickly comedy that blooms with romance. Laugh out loud as unexpected love is found.

$16 Adult. $14 Seniors and Students.

From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at  in Hillsborough. 
Why Go: 
Learn how to extend your growing season and how to harvest fresh vegetables well past the farmers’ market season.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday at Lowes in Hillsborough.
Why Go: 
Because the Build and Grow Workshop Series continues with a fire truck and working siren that kids can make all by themselves.

From 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday at  in Warren.
Why Go:
 Because kids ages 6 and up can play Pokeman in a league style that emphasizes fun over stiff competitions.

When/Where: 
At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday at  in Warren.
Why Go:
 Celebrate S'lichot with a unique experience. Hear a positive message about Israel from Israel's first Bedouin diplomat, Mr. Ishmael Khaldi.
Pricing: 
Free.


When/Where:
 At 3 p.m. on Sunday at  in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: 
Because it's a fun-filled afternoon of contests and events for all types of dogs and their human companions. If you look like your pet, there's a special contest for you.
