SOMERVILLE, N.J. - Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Timothy Fitzgerald and Warren Township Chief of Police Russell Leffert announce the arrest of Calvin Chen, 24, of Flushing, New York.
Prosecutor Soriano states that the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Narcotic Task Force received information that on May 8, 2014, an individual operating a black Acura MDX automobile bearing New York license plates would be in possession of a quantity of marijuana while in the area of King George Road, Warren New Jersey. After receiving this information, Task Force members and Warren Township detectives established surveillance in the surrounding area.
At approximately 8:45 p.m. the matching vehicle was observed. Detectives followed the vehicle on King George Road and subsequently conducted a motor vehicle stop. The driver was identified as Calvin Chen and he was advised of the investigation.
Defendant Chen gave voluntary consent to detectives to search his vehicle. Warren Township K-9 Officer Bryan Horst assisted and his K-9 Onyx gave a positive indication for the presence of narcotics in the rear of the vehicle.
Subsequently, approximately five (5) pounds of Marijuana was seized from the rear trunk area of the vehicle. Defendant Chen was placed under arrest at the scene without incident.
Defendant Chen was charged with Possession of CDS (Marijuana) with the Intent to Distribute, 2nd The street value of the total marijuana seized during this investigation is approximately $14,500.00.
Defendant Chen was later lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail to be set.
