Diocese of Metuchen to Sponsor Diocesan Youth Day
PISCATAWAY – Hundreds of teens from Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties will gather on Saturday, April 2 for the Diocese of Metuchen’s annual Diocesan Youth Day sponsored by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. Geared for high school students, the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, 146 Metlars Lane, Piscataway. This year’s theme is, “Manifest His Glory!”

The day will begin with a concert and keynote address by Tony Melendez, a Catholic recording artist who has performed around the world. A Nicaraguan American guitar player, composer, singer and songwriter, Melendez was born without arms. His mother took Thalidomide while pregnant, which caused his disability and he learned to play the guitar with his feet. He has gained national recognition for his musical talent and devotion to his faith. During his visit to the U.S. in 1987, Pope John Paul II was visibly moved by Melendez’s performance.

Following the keynote session, there will be workshops, breakout sessions and time for Eucharistic adoration. The event will conclude with 5 p.m. Mass celebrated by Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski.

“This annual event provides the youth of our diocese with an opportunity to meet the resurrected Christ, learn more about Him, and live out their lives as His disciples,” said Javier Bustamante, director of the diocesan Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. “Through inspirational workshops teens will be challenged to make the works of God visible in our world. They will seek to manifest God’s presence, love, peace, and word.”

The cost of the program is $30 per person (teens and chaperones) before March 4; $35 per person after March 4. The fee includes lunch, afternoon snack, gifts and more.
