Free Seminar for Parents of Children with Autism: Will Your Child Soon Be Declassified?

Parents of children with Autism are invited to attend the free seminar “Will Your Child Soon be Declassified?” to be held Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at  7:00 PM at the Bridgewater Marriott, 700 Commons Way in Bridgewater, NJ.

The seminar is in response to the pending release of the American Psychiatric Association’s revised Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM). The new edition of this important industry manual is expected to outline new diagnostic criteria for Autism, Aspergers, and other Pervasive Development Disorders – all of which may soon fall under a singular diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The overall impact may be to dramatically reduce the number of children diagnosed with autism, thereby limiting the access many currently have or will have to special education, health and related services.

Topics to be covered include:

• Why the Current Definition of Autism is Being Revised
• Details of the New Criteria for Diagnoses of Autism
• Impact on the Services School Districts Will Be Obligated to Provide
• What Families with a Child with Autism Should Do

Featured speakers will be:

Dr. Joseph Trzasko, licensed psychologist who focuses on psycho-education, the development of programs for students with special needs, and the tools utilized in the diagnosis of autism and related disorders

Jayne M. Wesler, Partner at Sussan & Greenwald, a law firm focusing exclusively on advocating for the rights of children with special needs. Wesler is also a licensed clinical social worker and former child study team member.

Individuals interested in attending should register online or call 609-409-3500. Seating is limited and is on a first come, first served basis.
