Facebook Group Promotes Message of 'Let Us Live'

It is encouraging children to send pictures about banning guns to President Obama.

Bridgewater resident Neha Pallod Limaye is hoping to get one message to the President of the United States—“No badge, no guns.”

And to promote that, Limaye has started a Facebook group called Let us Live!, which is centered around that message.

The group was created just after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut Friday, which left 28 people dead, including 20 children under the age of 10 years old.

With more than 1,200 members after just starting the group Saturday, Limaye is asking children to draw pictures that can then be sent to President Barack Obama in the White House.

“Our intention is to get that message out to the President, to flood the White House with pictures hand drawn by young children, asking for a wish to the right to live,” she said. “Let Us Live is their only wish.”

At this point, Limaye said, the goal is to get a minimum of 1,000 drawings sent to the White House by Christmas.

In the description of the group on Facebook, Limaye said it is all about getting change, and if the adults can’t do it, they should let the children do it.

“We are calling on children across the world to participate in a global message to the President of the United States of America,” she said in the description.

Limaye said she at first did not know how she would speak to her children about the tragedy.

“On one hand, I wanted to keep them away and protected from the discussion, while on the other hand I wanted to discuss the day with them and make them aware of what the world has come to,” she said in the group description. “I turned up taking a mid-way approach, relaying the day’s events vaguely, yet stressing the gravity of the consequences of violence.”

And now, Limaye is hoping to get students involved. She is encouraging children across the nation to sketch, paint or write a message to ban guns, with the slogan, “Let Us Live!” and an initial.

All images should be uploaded to the group wall, and mailed to The Oval Office, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500
